Nicholas K. Sheridon is the Research Director at Gyricon Media, Inc. and the inventor of SmartPaperTM. He has more than 25 years experience in display and electronic printer research and did pioneering work in the fields of acoustical holography, coherent optical processing and blazed holographic diffraction gratings. Sheridon, a physicist, was previously at Xerox Research Labs in Webster, New York in 1967 and then at the PARC campus in Palo Alto, California from 1972 until 2001.
While at PARC, he was a Senior Research Fellow, who held more than 75 U.S. patents and specialized in displays and electronic printing. Sheridon published many papers, including the first paper in the field of acoustical holography and the first paper in the field of blazed holographic diffraction gratings.
His inventions include the Ruticon, one of the first image buffers suitable for work in the field of coherent optical processing, and the Corjet, an ionographic charge image bar, which enabled one of the earliest multifunction product programs at Xerox.
Sheridon has several degrees in the field of Physics from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.
